Paul Wickman started Northstar Geographics in 2007. In less than three year NSG grew from a small 1-man shop to a software development and professional services organization serving clients around the globe.
GIS Rangers has been around for over 10 years. In that time Blaine Hackett has established it as one of the most respect dedicated GIS firms in Minnesota; providing on-site GIS services to numerous municipalities, watershed districts and private clients.
In 2012, Northstar Geographics and GIS Rangers merged into a single company, Flat Rock Geographics.
A Hybrid Approach to Open Source, Open Standards and Proprietary Solutions
As a member of OSGeo, Flat Rock Geographics promotes the use of open data standards and open source software. Many of the applications we develop are built on “best-of-breed” open source platforms like GeoServer, MapServer and OpenLayers.
While a major focus is on open source, we are not so ideologically driven as to ignore the realities of the marketplace. Our client’s needs always come first. Many organizations already work with or simply prefer solutions from respected vendors like ESRI and Oracle. We are pleased to support these technologies in addition to our open source products.
